For the longest time, we wanted to renovate our kitchen/foyer area in the apartment, but life had other plans and we had to postpone for a while.
Then we were hit with a pandemic, and we had to regroup. Initially, we booked a trip back to New York City but obviously had to cancel that (accompanied by many tears). We finally then took the plunge and committed to this renovation project.
We spent many late evenings drawing sketches of our ideal kitchen – along with that also came many many disagreements! Needless to say, we eventually agreed on the layout & aesthetic. One thing I was certain of, is that I needed an all white kitchen. Jason is pretty chilled, so he agreed!
We did not want to spend a fortune on this project, as this is not our forever home and we plan to list this as a rental in the future. That being said, we also wanted to do it properly and not skip on any detail.
We started with the work in February 2021. We took two weeks of leave and worked around the clock to remove all the floor tiles, all the kitchen cupboards etc. We live in a very old apartment, so the canvas we had to work with was anything but clean. There were so many things that went wrong, that we did not anticipate and that really threw off our timeline.
Jason and myself did 99% of the work, apart from the kitchen countertop installation. We designed, measured, cut, painted and installed everything ourselves. There were times where I was just not feeling the vibe anymore, but had to remind myself that we have come so far and no point in giving up.
Fast forward to July 2021 – WE ARE OFFICIALLY DONE! We are beyond happy with the end result!
